I’ve been a copywriter better than 22 years.
In that time, I’ve learned a lot about writing. And even more about marketing.
For example, I’ve discovered I’d rather help a client - I mean really help them - than simply plow my way through a writing gig. I’d make more money mass producing copy on generic projects, but then again, I’d probably make more money living and working in a big city, and I’m not doing that either.
I write for companies big and small (something that still amazes my mother, who wonders why I can write whole campaigns but seemingly can’t write e-mails to her). As time passes, I find myself consulting more on engagement marketing. That’s OK. For most small and medium sized companies, a clear messaging platform and sound marketing plan have many times the impact.
Personal
I’m married and live at the base of a 14,162′ inactive volcano in the mountains of Northern California. A photojournalist by training, I took a right turn into copywriting over two decades ago, working in two advertising agencies along the way.
A fly fisher and outdoorsman, I also write a “Top 10″ copywriting blog, an engagement marketing blog and a heavily trafficked fly fishing blog.
